Classic innovator’s dilemma. FB gets a bad rap when they don’t innovate, and the shareholders go up in arms if they try something like Reality Labs. An existing business, especially if public, cannot rock the boat too much, but jumpstarting something like the metaverse is something unlikely to be done by a small scrappy startup, needs resources behind. With all their funding, Magic Leap doesn’t seem to be doing way better.
